Congo Bongo EcoVillage is a family-owned retreat nestled in Manzanillo on Costa Rica’s southern Caribbean coast just south of Puerto Viejo de Talamanca. It is located within the Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge, the property spans lush gardens and wild jungle offering a peaceful escape in harmony with nature.
The eco-village features eight vacation rental houses, each equipped with kitchens, mosquito nets, Wi-Fi, and filtered water. Guests enjoy comfort and convenience while being surrounded by vibrant wildlife and tropical beauty.
A short 200-meter trail leads to a secluded white-sand beach with direct access to the Caribbean Sea. It is a great spot for families, weddings, or retreats where visitors can spot sloths, monkeys, and colorful birds in their natural habitat.

2 weeks agoWe had a fantastic experience at Congo Bongo EcoVillage. We stayed in the Sweet Dream villa, which had an open air dinning room, and private rooms for us and our kids. The kitchen was self contained and behind a locked door to ensure the wildlife couldn't break in. The service was excellent, and the laundry service was particularly good. The jungle canopy around us was great, and waking up to howler monkeys some mornings was a special treat. Other mornings we had spider monkeys clambering through the tree tops. The birds and wildlife were special and it was just a short walk to the beach. Great quiet location, close to good restaurants, beaches, jungle and other facilities. Strongly recommend.

2 months agoAmazing three night stay in The Big Dream House. Masai was a very attentive host. The daily laundry service (free) was a nice touch. Saw and heard lots of wildlife from our place. One day we saw a sloth about 15 feet from the ground on the 500m walk to the beach. Very humid so bring your best mosquito repellent. We found that the fans in the bedroom were enough to keep us cool enough. Close enough to walk to Manzanillo, although you can walk the entire length of the beaches all the way to Puerto Viejo more or less. Be sure to visit the national park and find your own beach.

3 weeks agoWe travlelled for our anniversary trip, part of the trip we started at this resort and it blew our mind. The Long Dream House was spectacular and staffs were very nice. Masai and Oner was always in our reach with any help. The whole resort was very nicely decorated and what amazed us most is the use of resources. The walk from our Long Dream House was not 8 minutes what they told me, it was over 20 minutes, but honestly they made the whole 20 minutes walk so enjoyable with fantastic decoration. Reusung toys for kids was a great option. And the most of all we went there from NYC, living in a real forest was like a life time experience. Highly recommend!

7 months agoMisleading marketing. We stayed one night in the River Dream House. The air conditioning settings are locked on 24/75. The bathroom does not have a window only a screen and it never cools down. If you don’t allow the guests to cool the room and lock the setting that needs to be disclosed BEFORE booking. All that for nearly $200 a night. I informed the manager the next morning (and messaged immediately that night) that the room wasn’t cooling. I was told by the manager to use the fan. I informed her that I was using the fan. She said she had a different property with ac but it wasn’t available. She offered to bring me another fan. Fans just move the hot air around-they don’t cool. My family booked a different place to stay and left Congo Bongo. Unfortunately, we had to give away all of the grocery supplies we purchased, as no other properties with kitchens and ac were available.

a year agoStunning eco lodge in the middle of the jungle about 8 min walk to the beach. With howler monkeys waking you up in the morning, you truly feel in the middle of the jungle. It’s definitely away from the hustle and bustle of the backpacker tourist sites but this is definitely a plus and the lodge (although simple) has been designed impeccably to make it feel like you are living in the jungle. We never saw any of the guests and this was great for our family with small kids. Definitely worthwhile to spend a couple of days there
